BONTE

Collecting the postcards of GEORGE WILLARD BONTE  was a research project I started a few years ago.  One by one the collection grew until it reached 10 cards identified with his name printed on the bottom of each card. Not knowing if we had  all in this series I placed a permanent search on eBay. A book appeared in response to my search and I purchased it for $6  plus $6 shipping and handling. Much to my surprise, when I received “Sandman Rhymes” printed by H.M. Caldwell in 1904. I found illustration on every page.  All are        animated objects doing strange things that children must have enjoyed seeing. When checking these images I found one that looked familiar.  It was an  animated   close-pin and a knife in the same sketch. I then checked   postcards I had put away in  previous years that  interested me. Low and  behold, the same group is on  Raphael Tuck’s  COUPLING PIN SERIES published in the 20’s.  My mind started working overtime. There was another series by Tuck that had some of the same attributes I then checked out my GARDEN TRUCK  SERIES . These postcards are an anthropomorphic  vegetable   people talking to each other. On close examination I found a strange cat like animal with a heart face that also appears on the original series I started with. Yes the missing link. My conclusion is that all three series were done by GEORGE WILLARD BONTE.
